Is Jaskier gay, straight, or bisexual in ‘The Witcher’ series?

Amidst the engaging plotlines, gripping political intrigues, gut-wrenching misadventures, terrifying monsters, and of course, shocking kills, The Witcher season three also made a surprising revelation about one of the most loved characters. Yes, we are talking about Jaskier and the confusion surrounding his sexual orientation.

We first met the poetic bard in the first season after he became Geralt’s traveling buddy. Along the way, he developed a friendly bond with well-known characters like Yennefer which heightened his significance in the overall series. Besides his burgeoning friendship with Ciri, the third season also manages to portray the lovable bard’s philandering habits about which we have only heard up till now and which in the past landed him in grave troubles amongst the society’s wealthiest sections.

Saying so, the new season, not unlike its predecessors deviates from the source material by introducing a new romantic interest In Jaskier’s life in the form of the prince of Redenia, Radovid. While the fans have expressed delight for this touch of inclusivity to the character, those possessing a clear knowledge of the books are disappointed at this union given Radovid’s vile reputation.

Inevitably, the plotline propelled many fans to ponder over Jaskier’s sexual orientation leading them to wonder whether he is gay, straight, or bisexual.

Jaskier’s sexual orientation explained.

In season one we encountered Jaskier narrating the details of his sexual encounters with women to Geralt and in the recent entry, he is shown to engage in casual sexual relations with a female escort, Vespula, completely and successfully ruling him out as gay.

Meanwhile, his attraction towards Radovid (which in the season is described as a “crush”) culminating in sex in the fourth episode, “The Invitation,” demonstrates his bisexuality, and there is one scene from episode three which is worth mentioning in this regard.

The beginning of the episodes called “Reunion” takes us to a conversation between Jaskier and Vespula where the latter teased him about his diverse sexual partners. “I’ve cursed you for chasing tail of every kind. Men, women, dwarves, elves, polymorphous-.” is what she told him in the context of his growing fascination with Radovid.

While part one has presented a romantic angle to Jaskier’s life story whose presence until then was meant only to add comedic effect to some of the grim storylines, we would have to wait until the second part to find out more.
