It's just sweet and platonic.

Andy Cohen and John Mayer’s relationship has always baffled people – until the former spilled the details of the nature of their relationship on The Howard Stern Show last month, confessing the love between the two but at the same time confirming the absence of a sexual relationship.

However, this hasn’t curbed popular curiosity to revisit the duo’s friendship, which always was a little tricky – causing people to wonder if there ever was any romance that existed between the two. Let’s shed some light on the same.

Andy Cohen and John Mayer’s relationship explained

The pair’s friendship was common knowledge and neither party maintained reticence on the subject, thus heightening speculations about their romance. Notwithstanding the ongoing gossip at the time, the Watch What Happens Live host never missed an opportunity to praise Mayer in public, and on various occasions, he shared their close bonding.

“John Mayer and I have what some would consider an unlikely friendship. He’s one of our greatest living guitarists, and I’m regarded as the dude that stirs the [expletive] on late-night TV,” is what Cohen mentioned in Entertainment Weekly in 2015.

He went on to extol the “Gravity” singer’s cooking skills and dashing appearance in his memoir, The Andy Cohen Diaries:  A Deep Look at a Shallow Year, he shared,

“One thing is for sure, John Mayer cooks a mean breakfast and there’s something hot about a pop star in sweats with bed head slaving over a hot skillet for his houseguest.”

The singer obviously returned the compliments by calling him a reliable friend. Describing his experiences with Cohen, Mayer added,

“I’ve walked with him down city streets and been on FaceTime with him as he goes about his day, and each and every time he’s recognized, he’s said ‘hello’ to just like a friend. ‘What’s up Andy?’ ‘Hey Andy!’ ‘Loved what you said about de Blasio’ He’s also my friend, my dear friend. And there are times in life when you just need a friend you can count on.”

Thereafter, amid the rising speculations and suspicions concerning their relationship, Cohen — in an interview with CNN — shunned the rumors of their dating, further explaining that their friendship is platonic. “Listen, we have a very sweet friendship, and we are together all the time. I think that I was not surprised because we also have a great love for each other. So, it just seems like the obvious assumption.”

The 55-year-old talk show host reiterated the nature of his relationship with Mayer in the recent interview with Howard Stern where he swore on his children about them never having shared any form of sexual intimacy. Nevertheless, as recounted by Cohen, their friendship and his love for Mayer remains intact.
