As Secret Invasion speeds towards its second half (only three more to go, Skrull stans!), the Disney Plus show is up to its old tricks once again as it attempts to make us doubt what we think we know for certain. Meanwhile, a Marvel icon makes some surprisingly loose-lipped comments about his apparent incoming return to the MCU as Brie Larson finds herself handed one last deadline to silence her trolls forever.
Benedict Cumberbatch says more than he should about his upcoming MCU future
Benedict, come on, man. During the Avengers: Infinity War press tour, your job was literally to keep Tom Holland for spoiling too much and now here you go and admit that you’re filming your next Marvel Studios project next year. Not just that, in fact, but Benny C has teased that he has more than one “Marvel caper” coming in 2024. So it seems safe to say that a production start date is already being locked in for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Given that the film comes out in May 2025, the cameras will probably start rolling in early 2024. But, hey, at least Cumberbatch didn’t lie to us this time like he’s done before.
The Marvels may be Brie Larson’s last chance to turn the hate train around
Despite being one of the MCU’s lucrative stars (the box office and Rotten Tomatoes stats don’t lie, folks), Brie Larson is infamously on the receiving end of an endless stream of nonsensical hate from certain scary corners of the internet. Even more measured sorts simply don’t have a strong personal connection to Captain Marvel as a character. But with The Marvels coming this November, the fans are determining that this is the actress and the studio’s final time to turn things around and really make Carol Danvers as popular as Iron Man or Captain America. Some would say that the $1 billion gross of 2019’s Captain Marvel suggests she’s already there, but hey ho.
Secret Invasion‘s latest twist tries to make us doubt the evidence of our own eyes
Naturally for a conspiracy thriller featuring shapeshifting aliens, Secret Invasion has made us doubt our senses from the get-go, apparently killing off characters we expected to last a lot longer in the MCU practically every week. In episode three, for instance, the show went and tragically murdered one instant fan-favorite. Except, the thing is, Disney has already released trailers featuring footage of this character that we have yet to see in the show itself. Therefore they can’t be dead, right? Ordinarily, this would be a simple answer, but Secret Invasion has a knack for making us question even things that seem obvious.
