Latest Marvel News: A heavily-hyped credits scene revealed to be the setup for absolutely nothing as ‘Vol. 3’ falls victim to Zack Snyder being the blueprint

Based on the aftermath, you've got to wonder if it'll ever be picked up again.

Thanks entirely to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, every major franchise in Hollywood feels the need to add in post-credits scenes to either unveil one last gag, resolve a plot point from earlier, or set up what’s to come. It’s as inevitable as it can be infuriating, especially when the originators have no intention of following up on the implications.

Meanwhile, the Deadpool 3 leaks have already gotten so bad that studio heads have been forced to step in and stem the tide of speculation, while the latest chapter in the never-ending and entirely imaginary war between James Gunn and Zack Snyder has drawn Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 into its orbit.

There’s never a dull moment in the world of Marvel, and today is no different.

That Eternals stinger wasn’t setting up what everybody assumed it was

When Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman opened a package containing the Ebony Blade at the end of Eternals and was greeted by the debut of Mahershala Ali’s Blade in the process, putting two and two together led everyone to believe the former would return in the latter’s solo movie.

It was sound reasoning, except for the fact Harington revealed that not only is he absent from the Daywalker’s reboot, he was never intended to be part of it in the first place. Time will tell if he’s telling fibs, but it would make the second post-credits scene incredibly pointless were it not paid off, particularly when any talk of continuing the Eternals’ adventures has gone concerningly quiet.

No, Zack Snyder is not the blueprint for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘s standout scene

Anything James Gunn does must be compared to something Zack Snyder has done in the past, or so the laws of the internet would have you believe based on just how often the MCU veteran and current co-CEO of DC Studios is pitted against the architect of the SnyderVerse.

This time, the thoroughly terrible Sucker Punch has been dredged up and used an example of how Gunn has pilfered Snyder’s work to deliver the standout sequence of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and maybe the entire Multiverse Saga so far. It’s exceedingly tenuous, but that’s the basis of the entire discourse, to be fair.

Studio head chimes in to tell everyone that isn’t Hugh Jackman on the set of Deadpool 3

Set photos can be both a blessing and a curse, especially for anyone trying to remain spoiler-free right up until they take their seat in the theater on opening night, so you’d best mute any mentions of Deadpool 3 between now and next summer.

On the plus side, a lot of the “leaked” set photos are entirely fake and from years past, with the head of 20th Century Studios stepping in to let everyone know that the widely-circulated images of Hugh Jackman were actually taken seven whole years ago.

That’s it for another week of all things Marvel, but be sure to check back tomorrow for the first dispatch of a brand new week.
