Leaving the fandom hanging without updates is nothing new for Warner Bros., but when everyone said things are destined to change in DC land with James Gunn holding the helm, they weren’t kidding as the seemingly doomed future of Doom Patrol’s fourth season part two has just been confirmed without the shadow of a doubt.
The mid-season finale of the season was released back in January 2023. Since then, HBO Max has become Max and five months have passed without any confirmation about when the six pending episodes of the final season will be released. Given how WB has been dealing with its projects and knowing that the series completing its production way back in 2022 doesn’t mean squat if the decision to cancel it was taken, tempers were understandably running high.
So, it definitely didn’t help when series star, Michelle Gomez, who plays Laura De Mille aka Madame Rouge in the show, publicly expressed her bleak concerns for Doom Patrol. In her post on Instagram, the actress shared her “sinking feeling” that the last part of the series is doomed and has been unceremoniously “binned” despite having the Oscar-winning Brendan Fraser as its star.
Her warning had the desired effect as Doom Patrol fans rushed to the one person who actually likes to allay the fears of his audience on a regular basis — James Gunn.
Thankfully, the new DC Films’ co-head seems to be continuing this beloved tradition of his on Instagram’s Threads as well. Thus, when a concerned fan inquired about the series’ well-being and demanded to know whether it has been canceled completely, Gunn first assured that he can’t “imagine a world where completed episodes” of a show will not be released and then proceeded to officially confirm that Doom Patrol season four part two is completely safe.
While the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director also didn’t reveal exactly when the last six episodes of Doom Patrol are destined to hit Max, at least the makers and cast of the show as well as their loyal fans can rest assured that the James Gunn-confirmed series is set to see the light of day.
