‘Blue Beetle’ is finally getting a new trailer, but of course Warner Bros. still manages to shoot itself in the foot

It's almost as if it wants another DCU movie to bomb.

Having already suffered back-to-back box office catastrophes this year after Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash were burned at the stake by audiences unwilling to fork over the cash to see them in the theater, you’d have thought Warner Bros. and DC would be pulling out all the stops to raise awareness for Blue Beetle.

After all, the franchise’s latest offering hits the big screen in less than seven weeks, with James Gunn confirming that Xolo Mariduena’s title hero will be the first major character who can officially be designated as part of his incoming DCU overhaul.

And yet, the co-CEO had no idea this time yesterday when the film would get its first trailer since April, and Blue Beetle‘s Twitter handle shook off the cobwebs from three months of inactivity to post a meme about avocados. It’s bizarre to say the least, but even the news fans have been waiting for comes with a caveat.

A brand new and second full-length trailer for Blue Beetle will premiere today… but so does the maiden look at Paul King’s Wonka, the all-singing and all-dancing reboot from the director of the beloved Paddington series with internet darling Timothee Chalamet front and center. Needless to say, the fury was instantaneous after the studio sabotaged itself yet again.

That’s not to say Blue Beetle is destined to be the second-biggest trailer talking point of the day, but it does look very likely. Just when you thought WB was getting its house in order, it reverts to type and shoots itself squarely in the foot.
