The BTS ARMY has been going through a tough period ever since the band put its group activities on hold. While they first thought this new chapter would include limited content from their favorite artists, what they got instead was an increase in shirtless photos and provocative songs. Jungkook is the best example of this.
Just today, the youngest BTS member released a new single, “Seven (feat. Latto),” along with a music video starring the Korean actress Han So-Hee. But no matter how good Jungkook looks in the new clip, he can’t distract fans from the words coming out of his mouth, especially when they’re this thirsty. In a collective effort to avert their attention from their own thoughts, then, ARMYs have chosen to willfully misinterpret the lyrics. And when you dig for a deeper meaning in BTS songs, the answer, as usual, relates to capitalism.
Jungkook’s fellow BTS member, SUGA, is widely known for including anti-capitalistic messages in his discography and commenting on divisive societal topics. To apply this logic to Jungkook’s new single, though, is a huge leap, to say the least.
Thankfully, this is nothing more than a deflection tactic, seasoned with the particular brand of humor ARMYs have gotten us all used to by now. In fairness, we all need a good laugh to forget the tidal wave of thirst the “Seven” music video just provoked. And maybe a cold shower while we’re at it.
After this solo single, Jungkook is expected to release a solo album sometime soon. If it’s anything like this song, though, fans may want to prepare themselves.
