Release Date Set For Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln

Time to add another film to your November watch list, as it has been announced that Steven Spielberg's Lincoln will open on November 9th, just in time for awards season. How fitting. The film hasn't been hyped as much as much as some of the other major films releasing later this year, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be excited for it.

Time to add another film to your November watch list, as it has been announced that Steven Spielberg‘s Lincoln will open on November 9th, just in time for awards season. How fitting.

The film hasn’t been hyped as much as much as some of the other major films releasing later this year, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be excited for it.

Daniel Day-Lewis stars as the 16th president in the film and the first photo we saw showed an amazingly uncanny resemblance to the great emancipator.

The actor is known for fully immersing himself into his roles and it is rumored that he spoke exclusively in his Lincoln accent for months before filming. Judging from what we know about Day-Lewis, I wouldn’t be surprised if there is an Oscar headed his way come awards season.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is also something to look forward to as he plays Lincoln’s son Robert. This will be the last film released in a monster year for Gordon-Levitt, who also has The Dark Knight Rises, Premium Rush, and Looper premiering in the second half of 2012.

In addition to the two aforementioned actors, the star-studded cast also includes Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, and Jared Harris.

Tony Kushner, the playwright most famously known for Angles in America, wrote the script for the film, which focuses on Lincoln’s pivotal role at the end of the Civil War. Kushner also wrote Munich, which was a great take on one of the most significant historic events of the 20th century.

With the November release date, Lincoln is one more high profile 2012 film that we can look forward to. Ever since I first heard about the project I’ve been incredibly anxious to see it. Spielberg’s involvement is enough to get me into theatres and when you throw in that impeccable cast, well let’s just say that this film has “Oscar” written all over it.

What do you think? Is Lincoln one of your must-see films for the year? Let us know in the comments below.
