The Dark Knight Rises Pulls In Impressive Numbers From Midnight Shows

The box office take for these shows was, as expected, outstanding as it's now being estimated that the film made $30.6 million from these premieres alone. What's even more impressive is that this was done without the help of 3D, though, to be fair, it does include IMAX ticket prices. This currently puts it at number two on the list of highest midnight openings of all time behind the final Harry Potter Film (which made $43.5 million).

Early this morning, the biggest film of the year finally hit the big screen. The Dark Knight Rises played in around 3,700 theaters to eager film-goers who had been waiting for Christopher Nolan‘s final part of his Batman trilogy for the past four years.

The film is doing rather impressive with the critics so far as well. On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently sits at 86% with a score of 8/10. Our own Will Chadwick loved it, giving it a 95% in his review where he called it “A completely satisfying piece of filmmaking that delivers so much more, making for an excellent sign off for one of cinema’s finest trilogies.”

I had the opportunity to see it a couple of nights ago, and while I can’t rate it quite that high, I still found it to be a satisfactory conclusion to the greatest set of superhero films ever made.

It will be interesting to see the weekend numbers for the film come Monday. Will The Dark Knight Rises have what it takes to set the record for highest opening, currently held by The Avengers with $207 million?

What did you all think of The Dark Knight Rises? Do you think it will break the record? Let us know in the comments!
