Sam Worthington To Join Arnold Schwarzenegger In Ten

Back in May, it was announced that action legend Arnold Schwarzenegger would lead the cartel thriller Ten, along with a slew of other comeback projects including reprising his role in The Expendables 2, starring as a Southern Sheriff in The Last Stand and then reuniting with Sylvester Stallone in The Tomb. Well, it appears that despite a busy slate, Ten is moving ahead and has added Sam Worthington to star opposite the former body-builder-turned-governor.

Back in May, it was announced that action legend Arnold Schwarzenegger would lead the cartel thriller Ten, along with a slew of other comeback projects including: reprising his role in The Expendables 2, starring as a Southern Sheriff in The Last Stand and then reuniting with Sylvester Stallone in The Tomb. Well, it appears that despite a busy slate, Ten is moving ahead and has added Sam Worthington to star opposite the former-body-builder-turned-governor.

For those unfamiliar with the project, you can read the official synopsis for it below:

“In ‘Ten’, an elite DEA task force deals with the world’s deadliest drug cartels. Specializing in complex mobile operations, the team executes a tactical raid on a cartel safe house. What looks to be a typical raid turns out to be an elaborate theft operation, pre-planned by the DEA squad. After hiding millions in stolen cash, the team believes their secret is safe – until someone begins assassinating them one by one.”

Variety is reporting that the Aussie star of Avatar and Clash of the Titans is in negotiations for a leading role, though who he will portray remains a mystery at this point. Worthington has had a somewhat tumultuous year with underperformers Man on a Ledge and Wrath of the Titans, especially in contrast to starring in back-to-back-to-back $100 million-plus grossers in 2009 and 2010. In the right picture, the man is a solid draw and can be quite charismatic in fact, but he has yet to earn the clout needed to open a movie. We’ll see if a teaming with the Governator will change his fortunes.

Ten will come from director David Ayer, who is most noted for penning Training Day and S.W.A.T and directing 2008’s Street Kings. So far, this picture is grabbing up some rather spotty talent at best and though Schwarzenegger, Worthington and Ayer have great films to their name, none are known as prestige thespians and filmmakers, respectively.

What do you think? Will Ten turn out to be just another run of the mill action film?
