Christopher Nolan Gives Advice To Next Batman Director

With the final film in Christopher Nolan‘s Dark Knight Trilogy finally being released this past Friday, talk has already begun of a reboot of the franchise. We’re talking about something that’s more than likely several years down the road, but it is something that Warner Bros. will inevitably want to do given the massive success of Nolan’s films.

So what does Nolan himself have to say on the matter? Well, during a podcast with Empire, Nolan had this advice to offer:

The only advice I would have is that … when I first met with Paul Levitz of DC Comics prior to Batman Begins, he explained to me clearly that Batman, of all superheroes, has thrived on reinterpretation and almost is strengthened by it. And I’m talking about over the years in the comic books but also in the movies. So when the time is right, whenever someone does whatever the next iteration of the character is, they simply need to be true to whatever it is they want to see, to what they believe in, not worry too much about what everyone else is telling them it should be.

It’s really hard to imagine any one else helming a Batman film now that Nolan has brought his unique and brilliant touch to it. I find The Dark Knight to be the finest comic book film ever made and find it very hard to believe that anyone else will be able to make a Batman film that’s even half as good. However, this is still sound advice from the man himself. Sticking to a vision can bring about a great film, but it also requires the new director to have a vision that will work well for the character.

Christopher Nolan‘s last Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises, left it open for the possibility of a sequel, but who knows if the next film would take it from there or just start anew with another origin story. There are several different possibilities, but again, my level of excitement will be directly tied to whomever Warner Bros. hires for the inevitable reboot. Here’s hoping there’s someone out there with a vision that’s even half as amazing as Nolan’s was.

Who would you all like to see take over the Batman franchise? Do you think there should even be another film, and if so, what would you like to see it explore? Let us know in the comments!
