In a recent discussion with Crave Online, Kiefer Sutherland spoke about the progress of the much-anticipated movie adaptation of his hit TV series 24, confirming that it is still going to happen. Talks of a film have been ongoing since the series ended in 2010, after eight seasons of real-time terrorist pummeling and suspiciously absent toilet breaks.

Filming was originally supposed to start this Spring but 20th Century Fox stopped production in March before it even got underway. One of the main reason for this, along with unresolved budgetary issues and the studio not liking the script, was Sutherland’s schedule.

“…there was a very finite window for me to make the film, to try to prep it, cast it and all of those other things. It was just unrealistic for Fox to try and make it, so they pushed it for next break.”

The actor went on to say that he believed the script would be ready to film as soon as he finishes the second season of his new TV show Touch. With that in mind, it’s looking likely that the project will be filmed next year, meaning a 2014 release date. That’s four years since the end of 24, but this doesn’t bother Sutherland.

“I think we can make a great film. I mean, I don’t want to do it with a cane, but we’ll see. We’ll see what happens”

Are you with Sutherland? Do you still think there’s life in the Jack Bauer character? And, more importantly, do you think that the 24 movie will work when the 24 hour real-time hook of the series is taken away?
