Tons Of New Images From Cloud Atlas

It's been awhile since we've seen a film from The Wachowski siblings, whose last film was the forgettable Speed Racer in 2008. However, there has been much speculation surrounding their latest project, the mysterious Cloud Atlas, which stars Tom Hanks, Hugh Grant, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, and James D’Arcy.

While not much is known about the film, we do know that the cast members will be playing multiple roles and that stories will include “a man (Hanks) who meets an emissary from an advanced civilization (Berry)” and “a darkly comic yarn about a composer (Broadbent) and his apprentice (Whishaw).”

The official synopsis for the film reads:

The powerful, inspiring epic Cloud Atlas explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution.

It certainly sounds like an epic kind of story, and now, thanks to these pictures from Entertainment Weekly, we have a much better idea as to what the film will look like, and boy, does it look incredible, showing us a vast array of landscapes and characters.

I, like many others, was very impressed with The Matrix and have been hoping that The Wachowskis would make a triumphant return to the big screen at some point. Could this finally be what we’ve been hoping for? These pictures have certainly gotten me excited for it. Hopefully a trailer won’t be too far behind.

The film, which is also being co-directed by Tom Tykwer, will be making its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival. As for those of us who can’t make it to the festival, we have to wait until October 26th for it to hit theaters everywhere.
