The best ‘Barbie’ Halloween costume ideas

“Hi Barbie!” “Hi Ken!”

If you thought you’d heard the last “Hi Barbie!” this summer, think again! The Barbie-wave might have died down a bit, but as Halloween approaches, you can expect much of the earth to be covered in pink once again.

Obviously, Barbie is already a Halloween-staple each year. When you have thousands of careers, and even more outfits at your disposal, your fans will naturally be left spoiled for choice. However, with the world-stopping force that is the Barbie live-action, there will be many more Barbaras (yes, her first name is actually Barbara) this Halloween. If you’re in a pickle as to which of the many versions to cosplay as this season, here’s some awesome Barbie inspo that’ll have all the Kens speechless. And yes, there’s some Ken looks too!

Mermaid Barbie

Dua Lipa’s extra-synthetic wig in the Barbie live-action is a nod to Mermaid-Barbie dolls and cartoons. One of the simplest Barbie looks to recreate, all you’d need for this is a blue wig that’s so bad, it’s great! Top that off with an everyday mermaid costume from the local costume shop and you’re good to go! It’s important not to splurge too much on this look, because the chances you’ll wear them again are slim-to-none. Swap out the blue wig for a red, and you’re Ariel from The Little Mermaid. Talk about efficiency!

Just Ken!

Let’s face it… for the first time in maybe ever, Ken stole the show in a Barbie movie. So there’s probably going to be a few Kennebees this Halloween. Luckily, there’s a couple options for anyone looking to steal the show. Ryan Gosling’s punk inspired outfit is definitely worth considering, and it’s super affordable to pull off too. This $50 fleece jacket on Amazon is perfect to pair with some sunglasses, a black bandanna, and some black jeans. You’d ooze some serious Ken-swag, and nobody’s even gonna notice you don’t have Gosling’s abs.

Swimsuit Barbie (Revamped)

One of the most iconic Barbie looks of all time is the 1959 black and white striped swimsuit. A swimsuit is probably not the biggest go-to in terms of Halloween wardrobe, especially with the weather. However, there are many ways to tweak the costume and during the movie’s press tour, Margot Robbie was dressed in an updated version of the swimsuit. Donning a similar-looking dress by Hervé Léger, she served some serious Barbie-realness, and paid homage to the original outfit. This is one of the easiest looks to recreate, and anyone who’s handy with a needle and thread can make a DIY version in no time!

Skater Barbie

Follow in Margot Robbie’s footsteps by recreating this awesome rollerblading look. For just $38.99, you can get a similar look on Amazon. Now if you’re not a big skater, you’ll want to opt for sneakers, but the look is unmistakable, and you’re sure to hear a “Hi Barbie!” in no time. It’s also a perfect outfit to match with a group, and it can be tweaked into a more gender-fluid style if you prefer!

Cowboy Barbie and Ken

Margot Robbie looked absolutely flawless as the pink Country Barbie and it’s a look that’s sure to be replicated. In the same vein, Ryan Gosling’s Cowboy Ken look is one of the most popular looks you might see this Halloween. Because of its versatility, it’s also a great look to wear on other occasions. Due to the overwhelming Barbie-wave from this summer, the full Cowboy Barbie and Ken looks are available in most costume shops. However, it’s understandably selling out pretty fast. You can copy the entire Ken-fit on Spirit Halloween’s online store for just $40. The Barbie outfit is available on Amazon at a wide range of prices for any budget.

Barbie Box Costume

If you find yourself wondering if people won’t get your Barbie outfit choices, then the Barbie Box Costume is your best bet. Because she’s so famous, and has a ton of careers, others might mistake Doctor Barbie for a regular Barbie… or Astronaut Barbie for a regular astronaut. However, the Barbie Box Costume is as on the nose as you can get. At many Barbie premieres around the world, fans had the option to take photos in a makeshift doll box. So why not take things a step further and go everywhere as a still-in-the-box Barbie? Spirit Halloween has complete Barbie and Ken box outfits for just $35 and $40 respectively.

Jumpsuit Barbie

Why not gather your friends and take down the patriarchy together in some pink power jumpsuits? Easily the best option for group outfit ideas, bright pink jumpsuits are available all over the internet. Anyone who’s seen the movie will get the reference in no time as well, so there’s no explaining needed. Bonus points if you actually defeat the patriarchy!
