Fans have been waiting a long time for a movie based on the popular MMORPG World of Warcraft , but for years the project has been in development limbo. Now Legendary Pictures has announced that they’ve hired screenwriter Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond) to draft a new script for the film, and it looks like it might finally make its way to the big screen.

Leavitt and Legendary recently collaborated on The Seventh Son, with Leavitt scripting the film adapted from the popular fantasy book The Spook’s Apprentice. Reportedly, Legendary is now hoping to find a new director within the next few months to replace the previously attached Sam Raimi.

Developed by Blizzard Entertainment, World of Warcraft is set within the fantasy world of Azeroth, home to the warring factions of the Alliance and the Horde. Populated by Orcs, Dwarves, Humans, and more, there is plenty of source material to make a great epic adventure film.

However with over 9.1 million players logged on to World of Warcraft worldwide, Legendary and Blizzard will have to work hard to please all of them.

Are you one of those 9.1 million subscribers? What do you want to see on the big screen?
