Alternate Trailer For The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Recently, we received word that Peter Jackson would be turning his adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit into three films instead of the originally planned two. Incredibly, this decision came before anyone even had a chance to view the first film, which is coming out in less than five months. However, with this announcement, we now know that we can expect a lot more news and marketing for the films in the coming months (and years).

Today, thanks to The Film Stage, we have a look at an alternate cut of the trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey that had been changed slightly to allow it to play before the G-rated film Brave just a couple of months back.

Though certain changes have been made (such as removing the smoking of pipes) there have also been a few additions, which include “Bilbo’s reaction to Gandalf’s arrival (0:23), Bilbo hiding behind a tree in Mirkwood (1:57) and Gandalf, the dwarves, and Bilbo running through a forest (1:59 ).”

Overall, it’s not that different from the original trailer, but it is probably the last bit of new footage we’ll get before the next new trailer that’s supposedly coming in September.

In case you somehow didn’t already know, you can catch The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in theaters on December 14, 2012, with The Hobbit: There and Back Again following the next year on December 13, 2013.

The as-of-yet-untitled “part three” is expected to debut during the summer of 2014.

Check out the alternate trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments.
