It could be a long, long road for Robert Pattinson to leave his Twilight image behind, but he is certainly taking steps in the right direction by starring in a plethora of films that he clearly didn’t choose for their box office potential. Variety reports that the actor is taking another huge step away from Edward Cullen by joining indie flick Queen Of The Desert.
The film is directed by Werner Herzog and also stars Naomi Watts as English writer Gertrude Bell. Pattinson’s role will be that of T.E. Lawrence, a British Army officer whose writing earned him international fame as Lawrence of Arabia, the same Lawrence of Arabia that was played by Peter O’Toole in the 1962 classic.
This could be a very good decision for Pattinson, as a successful portrayal of an iconic character such as Lawrence would be huge for his career. I believe he has great potential as an actor, and working with a director like Herzog, especially on the heels of working with David Cronenberg on Cosmopolis, will surely help him to further develop the talent he has shown.
