This morning, 2K Games sent out a press release to announce the existence of its Borderlands 2 Season Pass. Given the current state of the gaming industry, and all of the nearly-identical passes we’ve seen in the last couple of years, the news didn’t come as a surprise. However, fans of the franchise should be happy to hear of its existence and the monetary savings that it will offer.

By purchasing the $30 pass through a lump sum transaction, gamers will gain access to the first-person shooter/RPG hybrid’s four confirmed downloadable expansions when they become available. Since each one will retail for $9.99 (800 Microsoft Points), each subscriber will be looking at approximately ten dollars in savings, which isn’t anything to scoff at. It’s essentially a buy three, get one free deal.

The Borderlands 2 Season Pass will become available for download on September 18, which is the game’s much-anticipated release date. Although none of the available add-ons will be available for download at that time, the publisher has stated that all four packs are “scheduled to be available by June 2013”.
