Spike Jonze‘s next film is already in post-production, but its title hadn’t even been released until today when The Film Stage got word from some official sources that the upcoming movie will be called Her.

But wait, not only do we get the title of this long-untitled film, but thanks to The Playlist we also get the first official synopsis for the futuristic romance.

“In the not so distant future, Theodore, a lonely writer purchases a newly developed operating system designed to meet the user’s every needs. To Theodore’s surprise, a romantic relationship develops between him and his operating system. This unconventional love story blends science fiction and romance in a sweet tale that explores the nature of love and the ways that technology isolates and connects us all.”

Looks like the original rumor of “a guy who falls in love with the voice of a computer, similar to the Siri feature on the new iPhone” wasn’t too far off the mark. This synopsis really only gives details about Phoenix’s role, but from the description given, I think it’s one he should thrive in.

In case you don’t know, the film boasts an all-star cast, with Joaquin Phoenix starring as Theodore, and a backing quartet of the talented Amy AdamsRooney Mara, Samantha Morton, and Olivia Wilde.

This is Jonze’s first feature since Where The Wild Things Areand his first effort at writing a feature. He’s shown talent at directing sci-fi with a realistic feel before, so hopefully that flair will translate to something he’s written as well.
