As we know, everything must be a trilogy and for once, that actually sounds like a good idea.

Ethan Hawke has confirmed that the team behind the beloved romantic films Before Sunrise and Before Sunset are working on an as-yet-unnamed sequel to round out the tale of Jesse and Celine.

According to First Showing, Ethan Hawke and his collaborators Richard Linklater and Julie Delpy are currently in Greece, at work on the script for the sequel.

“If it works out, we’ll film it, and if it doesn’t, we won’t. It’s not really worth talking about. I’m just here developing,” says Hawke.

Julie Delpy has already mentioned that they hope to get filming underway sometime in the next year or so, but that’s contingent on whether they can produce a script that everyone is happy with.

It’s been almost nine years since Before Sunset and while it’s great that Hawke et al have started work on the script, let’s not get too excited. This is very much in development but if the team of Hawke, Delpy and Linklater can bring a really excellent script together, then it will all be well and good. That being said, it better be something really spectacular, especially after the conclusion of the last film.

We expect to hear more from Ethan Hawke et al on this subject before long and when we do, we’ll let you know.
