Buzz continues to build around J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek 2, which is still without an official title. In fact, the film is still without footage, photos or any form of promotional material at all.

Despite the lack of visuals to get us excited, cast members are still stirring up anticipation and the latest to do so is Chris Pine, who spoke about the film’s story to Total Film (via ComicBookMovie).

“We’re not making Batman. That’s not our deal,” Pine told us. “There’s comedy, which I think J.J. does a great job of, but, like the first one, there’s some serious issues being dealt with. And I’d say the threat is even greater in this one.”

“The force [the Enterprise crew] are met with is much more frightening. It’s relentlessly action-packed and in terms of character development it goes places you’d never expect. The arc is huge for all the characters. It’s a really big story – I can’t hype it enough!”

Sure, part of Pine’s job is obviously to hype the film, but he does sound genuinely excited. Plus, the first one turned out very well, so why not have high hopes for the sequel?

It sounds like Abrams is really putting a lot into Star Trek 2 and with the May 2013 release date still quite far off, he’ll have more than enough time to deliver a respectable final product.

As always, we’ll keep you posted when we hear more but you can expect to start seeing photos and footage from the film in the coming months.
