AMC’s The Walking Dead has just released a behind-the-scenes video via their Facebook page that takes you on a tour through the elaborate prison set which will play home to season three of the hit horror series.

The West Central Prison has been a prominent fixture of all the promotional material for season three of The Walking Dead, from its trailer to every image or poster to have debuted. Now, looking more intimately at what the team behind the series have constructed for us, it’s easy to see why.

From two-story sets to full-sized prison cells right down to the cracks on the walls and every spec of garbage on the ground, the series’ return is being constructed with love and dedication.

As Kirkman himself states in the video, the penitentiary is a hugely important entity of The Walking Dead comic book and a favourite of fans since it was revealed in Issue 13. The ominous, walker-riddled prison, while important for Rick Grimes’ and his followers’ survival, also ties closely to the next season’s villain The Governor (who will be portrayed by David Morrissey), who also seeks to take the fortress for his own.

The Walking Dead will return to AMC on October 14. In the meantime, check out the immensely interesting production video below.
