Even though Gossip Girl is coming to an end, it doesn’t look like Leighton Meester‘s career is slowly down in the least. The red band trailer for her latest feature, The Oranges, was just released, and this time when her character returns from Paris she lands a little shy of Manhattan.

Meester plays 24 year-old Nina who returns home to New Jersey, after five years away, to spend Thanksgiving with her family, the Ostroff’s. In an unsuspected twist, she finds herself falling for her parents’ best friend, David, played by Hugh Laurie.

In this offbeat adult comedy, the couple falls into an unconventional pseudo relationship after acting on their basic attraction to one another. Things get even more complicated, if that’s possible, when people start finding out about the affair – including Nina’s mother who discovers them at a motel, and David’s son, who from the trailer looks like he has a thing for Nina himself.

With a strong ensemble cast that includes Allison Janney, Oliver Platt, Catherine Keener and Adam Brody the film has some serious potential. As long as it can keep the quirky humor seen in this trailer coming, audiences should be pleased with what they see.

Check out the red band trailer for The Oranges below and let us know what you think!

The Oranges will begin its limited theatrical run on October 5th.
