Deadline is reporting that director Rupert Wyatt may be exiting Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Fox hasn’t offered official confirmation yet but apparently, Wyatt isn’t feeling too confident with the timetable that the studio has set.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is aiming for a May 23rd, 2014 release, which Wyatt thinks is too soon.

With a script already finished, written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the studio plans to continue moving forward and will now start the search for a new director. Given the success of the first film though, it shouldn’t be too tough for Fox to find a new candidate to helm the picture.

As for Wyatt, he was set to direct a KGB drama Londongrad and then had to drop out so he could helm Apes. Whether he’ll return to that project or not is unknown at this point but he also has a sci-fi film called Agent 13 that he’s attached to, so that’s an option as well.

As mentioned above, the studio hasn’t confirmed this just yet but it seems likely. While we wait on some official word from Fox, feel free to take to the comments below and offer up suggestions on who you’d like to see replace Wyatt.
