According to Indiewire, filmmaker Terrence Malick’s upcoming Knight Of Cups has received a new logline; production company FilmNation’s website now promises that, “The Knight of Cups is a story of a man, temptations, celebrity, and excess.”

That’s a pretty vague plot description, and one that could probably apply to a whole host of movies, from Citizen Kane to Blank Check, although Malick will probably differentiate Knight of Cups from those films by including a lot more urgent, voice-over whispering, most likely delivered by stars Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett, and Isabelle Lucas.

Other announced cast members include Antonio Banderas,Wes Bentley, Imogen Poots, Freida Pinto, Teresa Palmer, Ryan O’Neal, Jason Clarke, Joel Kinnaman and Shea Whigham, although who knows which actors will make the final cut.

Malick’s current film, To the Wonder, recently met with mixed reviews in both Venice and Toronto, with some complaining that it’s even more challenging than his 2011 Best Picture nominee, The Tree of Life.

Undeterred, Malick is only becoming more prolific, and is now working on an untitled project which begins shooting this fall. Also featuring Christian Bale and Natalie Portman, along with Ryan Gosling and Rooney Mara, some have speculated that this film will be a companion piece to Knight of Cups. No information regarding release dates or distribution for either of these films is currently available, but we’ll keep you posted when we hear more.
