No Plans For 28 Weeks Later Sequel Says Alex Garland

It’s been five years since we last saw the monkey rage virus sweep across London in Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s 28 Weeks Later. Though fans were hoping for a sequel, it appears that the undead are officially staying dead, according to writer Alex Garland (the man who penned the first film in the series, 28 Days Later).

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything on the subject of a second sequel to Danny Boyle’s magnificent 28 Days Later, but now it seems that according to Alex Garland, there are no plans for a third installment.

The screenwriter and novelist told Dredd Central:

“I’m still so proud of 28 Days Later and how well it’s been received over the years so I appreciate that. But in regards to another movie, no — there are no plans for a 28 Months Later or whatever they were calling it…This is a series I’ve always been heavily involved with between the original and the sequel so if there were plans for another movie, I would absolutely know about it.”

So it seems that we won’t be seeing any more of the rage infected zombie types any time soon. To be perfectly honest, any news regarding a second sequel to Danny Boyle’s movie never really felt like anything concrete to begin with and I for one am quite glad that we won’t be seeing a third movie in the series.

The first film worked perfectly well by itself and it was undermined by a far inferior sequel. Plus, we’ve already got enough zombie movie as it is. Maybe the undead should stay buried for a while, until someone has something interesting to do with them. I’m banking on Jonathan Levine’s Warm Bodies.
