Now that The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises have passed, that leaves filmgoers with one last box-office behemoth to look forward to, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Due out at the end of the year, December 14th to be exact, director Peter Jackson will be returning to Middle Earth as he hopes to once again break that fabled billion dollar barrier at the worldwide box-office.
Will The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey continue the upward trend that Jackson’s adaptations have been on in terms of box-office sales? Well, we’ll have an idea in about two months from now as advance tickets for the film go on sale starting November 7th at 12 PM EST / 9 AM PST, according to BoxOffice.com.
If the stretching of the book out into a trilogy is anything to go off of though, it’s pretty safe to say that those involved think highly of the series’ earning potential. The more movies, the more money it can be milked for, right?
However, how much money that will be and whether or not it’ll live up to the standard set by the Lord of the Rings trilogy are things we’ll just have to wait and see about.
Yet, if I had to bet, I’d say The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will probably at least surpass The Dark Knight Rises at the box-office, though only by virtue of The Dark Knight Rises turning out to be a relative disappointment on account of the tragic event that took place in Aurora. On a level playing field, I’d see things going quite differently.
Predictions aside, how many of you will be first in line come November 7th when the advance tickets go on sale and, more importantly, December 14th when The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey finally hits theaters?
