In an interview with Vulture, Bill Murray confirmed that he will be appearing in director Wes Anderson’s upcoming The Grand Budapest Hotel by saying he was, “about to go shoot a movie with Wes Anderson in Germany.” Also confirmed as cast members for the film are Jude Law and Johnny Depp, who appeared with Murray in Tim Burton’s 1994 film Ed Wood.
Of course, these days, the news that Bill Murray will be involved in a Wes Anderson movie is only slightly more surprising than news that confirms Wes Anderson will be involved in a Wes Anderson movie: Murray has appeared in 6 of the 7 films that Anderson has directed since his 1996 debut, Bottle Rocket (the only one not to feature Murray).
These days, Murray seems to make the news more for the roles that he won’t take, like that of Dr. Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters 3, which may now be turned into a remake.
Murray is currently promoting Hyde Park on Hudson, which recently premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and stars the actor as President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The film centers around a 1939 event in which FDR’s county estate in Hyde Park was visited by King George VI, who famously and posthumously won Colin Firth an Oscar in 2011. Let’s see if FDR can do the same for Murray.
