Todd Phillips, who has directed all three films from The Hangover franchise, is already looking past the booze-loving, crazy antics of the wolf pack and planning his next film once production wraps on The Hangover Part III.

Variety is reporting that Phillips will take on an adaptation of the Linwood Barclay novel Trust Your Eyes. In addition to directing the film, he’ll also be producing it with producer Dan Lin.

The novel is described as follows:

A schizophrenic man spends his days and nights on a website called Whirl360, believing he’s employed by the CIA to store the details of every town and city in the world in his head. Then one day, he sees something that shouldn’t be there: a woman being murdered behind a window on a New York street. Suddenly Thomas has more to deal with than just his delusions, as he gets drawn into a deadly conspiracy.

Granted, that’s the short version the book’s description, but that’s the basic idea of it. Phillips, whose other film credits include the comedies Starsky and Hutch and Old School just to name a few, clearly seems to be heading a new direction, so it’s a welcome change.

Although he’s entirely known for his work in the comedy genre, it’s always nice to see directors try their hand at something new. Whether he’ll succeed or not is up in the air but having enjoyed his previous efforts, I’ll be giving this one a shot.
