Fox Searchlight has their beams on Natalie Portman for the role of Jackie Kennedy in the upcoming film Jackie. The drama, penned by Noah Oppenheimer, had Darren Aronofsky and Rachel Weisz attached at one point but that obviously didn’t work out. Now, the project is garnering attention again with Portman’s interest in the script.
Jackie will follow the First Lady’s life after the assassination of her husband, President John F. Kennedy and chronicle her journey through that turbulent period.
As it stands now, Portman digs the script but won’t commit to anything until a director is confirmed. According to Deadline, Steven Spielberg was tinkering with the project back in 2010 but has not since been linked to this specific production.
If Aronofsky returned to take the directorial helm it could mark a departure for the genre filmmaker (oh come on, Black Swan is a horror film) into territory dabbled with in The Wrestler, which is straight up drama.
That being said, elbows deep in snakes and alligators on the shoot of his latest film, Noah, Aronofsky is unlikely to return to Jackie anytime soon.
