Capcom announced today that initial worldwide shipments of Resident Evil 6 have surpassed 4.5 million copies across the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, making it their highest-shipped debut title ever.

The company did not specify how those 4.5 million units were split between the two systems. However, the total does make Resident Evil 6 their fifth best-selling game ever, behind the 4.7 million life-to-date shipments of Monster Hunter Freedom 3 for the PSP. It also puts Capcom on track to achieve their stated goal of shipping 7 million copies worldwide, which would make it their best-selling game ever by surpassing the 6.3 million units of Street Fighter II shipped on the Super Nintendo.

Check out our review of Resident Evil 6 to see what we thought of Capcom’s new highest-shipped debut game, and we will let you know as soon as a release date for the PC version is announced.
