Nintendo has revealed that they are planning to release the long-awaited Pikmin 3 on the Wii U sometime next spring.

The announcement of the release window was made via a note (specifically #20) in the latest Iwata Asks feature that reads:

“Pikmin: The first game in the Pikmin series, released for the Nintendo GameCube system in October 2001. Pikmin 3 is scheduled for release for the Wii U console in the spring of 2013.”

Next year spring officially kicks off on March 20th and runs though June 20th. Nintendo previously confirmed Pikmin 3 for the Wii U’s launch window, which ends on March 31, 2013. Assuming that nothing changes, this means that we will finally get our hands on the next installment in the Pikmin series sometime in late March 2013.

Considering the time frame, I’m not expecting The Big N to nail down an exact release date for Pikmin 3 until early next year. Once they make it official, we will let you know.
