Some people may refer to America as the land of the free but others take those supposed freedoms to the extreme. Now a community in Arkansas has set up a whites only town and it seems they might actually have a legal argument to back them up.
The community of around 40 like-minded Millennial and Gen Z individuals has set up shop on 150 acres of land in the Ozarks and they call their group “Return to the Land.” In a documentary made by SkyNews the leader of the group, Eric Orwoll, explains their reasoning for creating their whites only space.
“What we’ve done here is establish a place where we have control over who our neighbours are. And that is just for the sake of preserving, you know, our culture.”
The community is made up entirely of white men and women who prioritize “traditional values” i.e. the men go out to work and the women stay home and raise the children. Oh and they refuse to let people of other races into their space, don’t forget that. They also won’t welcome you if you’re Jewish or gay.
Is ‘Return to the Land’ a white supremacist group?
If that sounds like a return to segregation that’s because it is. There’s no beating around the bush here, they are literally trying to bring back segregation, at one point in the documentary one of the women is asked what she thinks about preventing other groups from entering her community, she responds, “They can have their own communities, and they already do.”
What’s concerning about this group is that they are seeking to expand, with plans already underway to set up in Missouri. While there are roughly 40 people living in the community there are already hundreds of paid members online.
The response has been severe
Thankfully most sane people have called out the RTTL community. On X one individual accused the group of “normalizing Hitler as a product of propaganda,” before giving a grave warning: “That’s exactly how the last nightmare started. We are not doing that again.”
Half-an-hour down the road from the commune, Pat Johnson, a woman who grew up during segregation founded the Eddie Mae Herron center, a small museum focusing on the history of the civil rights movement and slavery in the USA among other things. When asked how she felt about RTTL setting up a whites only town just down the road Johnson responded, “when you hear things like that it causes you to be fearful.” She also made a point in blaming Donald Trump for emboldening racists.
“I feel like that’s the change of, and I’m just gonna say, I think it’s the change of our presidency… Because I feel like that’s where the change is.”
How is this legal?
The group is “structured as a private member’s association,” they believe that this allows them to discriminate based on ethnicity, however, that may not be the case. The Arkansas Attorney General, Tim Griffin, was looking into the legal standing of RTTL but recently announced the shocking news that no state or federal laws had been broken, meaning the group may well be in the clear.
