Marjorie Taylor Greene begins wooing back Donald Trump with a cocktail of lies, fantasies, and ‘children’s futures’

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene took to social media this week claiming to care about “children’s futures” in a tweet about election integrity, but the statement rings hollow given her track record on issues that actually affect kids. The Georgia congresswoman’s August 21 post described a conversation with her “favourite” President Donald Trump about “election integrity” and referenced her objection to what she called “the stolen election of 2020.”

In her tweet, Greene wrote that “Our children’s futures are on the line in this war to save America and the front lines of this battle lie at the election booths!!” She mentioned that Trump has tasked someone called the “GREAT Election Integrity Czar” to investigate those who allegedly “stole the People’s votes.” The timing appears strategic, as Greene has been trying to repair her relationship with Trump after publicly criticizing his administration earlier this year.

The mention of children’s welfare seems particularly empty given Greene’s actual policy positions that could harm kids. She has publicly dismissed expert testimony that COVID-19 vaccines have saved millions of lives, calling it “bullshit” and spreading fears around vaccine injuries even though such claims are widely debunked by public health authorities. This kind of misinformation can erode trust in vaccines and discourage parents from protecting their children, potentially putting them at risk.

Greene’s actual record on children’s issues raises serious questions

Her claims about caring for children become even more questionable when examining her legislative priorities. Greene introduced the Protect Children’s Innocence Act, which would make it a felony to provide gender-affirming medical care. She has also repeatedly promoted conspiracy theories that several school shootings including Parkland and Sandy Hook were staged “false flag” events, dismissing the real trauma experienced by children and families affected by gun violence.

Greene’s relationship with Trump has been strained in recent months, with her warning that Trump is “losing the base” and expressing frustration with his foreign policy decisions involving Ukraine and Iran. Recent polling shows Greene would be a weak candidate in statewide races, trailing Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff by 17 points in a potential 2026 Georgia Senate race and performing worse than other potential Republican candidates. This has led some to view her recent supportive tweets as an attempt to get back in Trump’s good graces after their public falling out.

Ed Martin, the person Greene refers to as the “Election Integrity Czar,” is a controversial figure who now heads the Justice Department’s “Weaponization Working Group” after his nomination for U.S. Attorney for Washington D.C. failed in the Senate. Martin has described January 6th as a “political hoax” and has been conducting investigations into prosecutors who handled January 6th cases. Martin was a prominent organizer of the “Stop the Steal” movement and has a history of controversial statements that ultimately derailed his Senate confirmation.

Greene’s sudden concern for children’s futures appears more like political theater than genuine policy interest. Despite serving three years in Congress, most of what Greene has accomplished legislatively involves changing the names of post offices and Veterans Affairs buildings. Her actual voting record and public statements suggest her priority lies more in promoting conspiracy theories and divisive rhetoric than in crafting meaningful policies that would benefit children and families. As she continues to struggle with declining approval ratings and a fractured relationship with Trump, voters may wonder whether her latest appeals to children’s welfare represent a genuine shift in priorities or simply another attempt to stay politically relevant.
