U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) holds up maps of the U.S. in front of an alleged screenshot from USA Fencing board director Damien Lehfeldt's instagram during the hearing on “Unfair Play: Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports" held by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Subcommittee at the U.S. Capitol on May 07, 2025 in Washington, DC. The hearing comes after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order in February that withholds federal funding from programs that allow transgender women and girls to compete in women’s sports events. ‘Today he called it a hoax’: Furious Marjorie Taylor Greene officially turns on Trump over Epstein denials

Betrayed and furious, Greene slams Trump's Epstein position.

Marjorie Taylor Greene made her name as Donald Trump’s greatest fangirl. Starry-eyed quotes from her praising him are easy to find: “I love President Trump, I never hide that fact. I think he’s wonderful,” and “I would fight for that man because he fought for us.”

All of which makes it notable that Greene has spent the summer trying to square the circle of opposing some Trump policies while arguing she’s never been more MAGA. Trump and Greene are now opposed over the Gaza genocide, with Trump all-in on Israel and Greene being the first person in Congress to openly use the word “genocide”, while heavily criticizing her Republican allies.

Now it looks like the final straw has broken. Greene has consistently argued that the truth of Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes must be exposed, a position that Trump once agreed with. Trump has now performed a dramatic and rapid flip-flop, deciding that, actually, nobody should be interested in the ‘boring’ Epstein files, which either don’t exist, or if they do exist they’re a Democratic hoax, and that he’s not in them, and if he is in them, that’s no big deal. Got that?!

“It’s not a hoax, it’s not a lie”

Now, on the day 10 Epstein survivors spoke outside Congress, and a discharge petition was put up for a vote pushing for full disclosure of the files, Trump openly described the Epstein crimes as a “hoax”. Greene is clearly furious:

“Today [Trump] called it a hoax while these women were speaking out, and they were saying “we’re not a hoax, we’re human beings”. And I think we need to see something turn around there. … It’s not a hoax!”

The host – who described himself as “MAGA through and through” agreed with her, and Greene continued:

“It’s not a hoax because Jeffrey Epstein is a convicted pedophile. That takes away the whole hoax thing. It’s not a hoax, it’s not a lie. On that note, every Republican should be able to sign onto this. And that’s the real hoax that they’re afraid to sign onto it, because somebody who is a real coward from one of the Trump admin officials came out and called this a “hostile act” against the Trump administration.”

Accusing the Epstein victims of this “hostile act” has obviously incensed Greene, who angrily said this anonymous Trump official is stabbing MAGA in the back. “The real hostile act is Jeffrey Epstein raping 14-year-old girls. That was the hostile act. And it’s NOT a hoax.”

Preach it, Marge! On one hand, it’s morbidly amusing to watch Greene finally come to the same conclusions about Trump that most people did years ago. But, on the other hand, Greene criticizing Trump is noteworthy as it reveals the depth of MAGA disillusionment and anger with their leader over this issue.

The discharge petition is, as of writing, four votes away from passing. No Republican men have signed it. We can only hope for its success and for the truth to be finally dragged into the light.
