David Fincher Wants Brad Pitt For 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea

After the critical and financial success associated with David Fincher‘s last two films (The Social Network and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo), it would seem that he might finally have a chance in getting passion project 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea off the ground (or, uh, into the water).

It’s a project that’s been surrounded in mystery, with Fincher offering up occasional flashes of information and vague production details whenever somebody remembered to ask him about it. And according to the Se7en director, it’d probably be made in 3D, and with about 70% CGI (which means that it’s going to be just like every movie that gets made nowadays). Underwater CGI film in 3D? James Cameron will be very jealous.

But the latest news surrounding this underwater adventure has been casting based, and it’s been rumored that Fincher wants his ol’ buddy Brad Pitt to take the leading role as the aptly-named Ned Land. Pitt worked with Fincher on Se7en, Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which – if these rumors happen to be true – would make 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea their fourth collaboration. It’s kind of getting all Scorsese/De Niro, isn’t it?

What do you think about this potential casting decision? Is it time to see Fincher and Pitt back together again?
