‘World-class pivot’: Journalist shuts down Kamala Harris for dodging a Biden question. What Harris said next made it 10 times worse

Even on a book tour, she still can't answer the Biden question.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris had a rough time during her recent interview with Australian journalist Sarah Ferguson. Harris is traveling around promoting her new book 107 Days, which talks about her short presidential campaign in 2024. During the interview, Ferguson kept asking Harris tough questions about Joe Biden and whether she should have said something about his health problems earlier.

Ferguson wanted to know if Biden’s refusal to admit he was struggling made it almost impossible for Harris to win against Donald Trump. But Harris did not answer that question. Instead, she started talking about Trump and said he lied to voters about what he really planned to do. She also said fake news and misleading information hurt her chances of winning.

That’s when Ferguson stopped her. “I want to interrupt you because that is a world-class pivot,” Ferguson said. “But it is not the question that I asked you, which is about Joe Biden’s failure to recognize his own frailties and what that did to you. The question is about Joe Biden. Are you still reluctant to criticize the former president?” Harris then asked Ferguson to explain what she meant, which just made Ferguson ask the same question again.

Her answer made things even more awkward

Ferguson asked her question a third time in a slightly different way. She wanted to know if Biden’s problems put Harris in a bad spot during the election. Harris said firmly that Biden was not weak when he was president. But Ferguson reminded her about the debate in June 2024 when Biden looked confused and kept freezing up. “But he had frailties. We all saw the debate,” Ferguson told her.

Harris kept defending Biden at first. She said she always believed he could do the job as president. But then she changed her tune a bit and said she did worry about whether Biden could handle the stress of running for president again in 2024. This made it seem like she was talking out of both sides of her mouth.

The whole conversation showed how Democrats are still fighting about Biden’s health and whether people knew about it earlier. Several news reports from The Wall Street Journal and other papers talked about Biden seeming less sharp before he quit the race in July 2024. A lot of Democrats now wonder why big names in the party like Harris stayed quiet about these problems for so long. At the same time, voters in key states that supported Trump are already expressing frustration with some of his decisions.

Harris actually writes about this in her book 107 Days. She says it was wrong to let Joe and Jill Biden make the choice about running again all by themselves. She thinks the decision was too important to leave up to one person’s pride. But when Ferguson asked her about it face to face, Harris could not seem to say these things clearly. She said she will not try to become California’s governor in 2026, so many think she might run for president again in 2028. Other Democrats are not happy about her book tour because they think she is just bringing up old problems from the 2024 election that nobody wants to talk about anymore. The Trump team has also faced criticism for restoring a Confederate statue that honors a general who left his post in shame.
