‘Beware… This vase brings death’: Man ignores 500-year-old warning note. 3 months later, his fate is sealed

She died holding it. Then her entire family started dropping like flies.

A simple silver vase from Italy has gained a reputation as one of the world’s most dangerous cursed objects.

The Basano Vase weighs around 4 pounds and looks quite ordinary with no fancy decorations or expensive designs. According to Facts-Chology, it first showed up in the 15th century as a wedding present. The bride who got it never made it to her wedding ceremony. She was found dead in her room, holding the vase tightly in her hands.

After the bride’s funeral, her family gave the vase to a relative to keep safe. That person died just a few days later. The family then passed it to another relative, and the same thing happened again. They started to realize something was very wrong. A priest told them the vase might be cursed and said they should bury it somewhere holy. Nobody knows exactly where they buried it, but the vase vanished for about 500 years.

In 1988, a man in Italy dug up the vase and found something strange inside. There was a note that said, “Beware… This vase brings death.” The man didn’t take the warning seriously. He threw the note away and brought the vase to a place that sells old items. A pharmacist bought it for 4 million Lire, which would be around $2,270 today. Just three months later, the pharmacist died.

Things got even stranger after that

A doctor who was 37 years old decided to buy the vase next. He also died within a few months of owning it. Then a man who collected old objects and studied history bought it, even though his family begged him not to. Three months passed and he died too from some kind of infection that doctors couldn’t explain. His family was so scared that they threw the vase out of their window.

A police officer saw them throw it and tried to give it back. The family wouldn’t take it and told the officer to get rid of it fast if he wanted to stay alive. The officer tried giving it to different museums, but they all knew about the curse and said no. He didn’t know what else to do, so he put the vase inside a lead box and buried it in a cemetery. Nobody knows which cemetery it was, and the vase hasn’t been seen since then.

Many people have questions about whether this story is even true. None of the people in the story from 1988 have names. We don’t know the name of the man who found it, the people who died, or even the police officer. The places aren’t named either. We don’t know where in Italy it was found or which auction house sold it.

There are other strange things about the story too. In the old days, people thought silver could protect against evil spirits and bad magic. It doesn’t make much sense that people in the 15th century would think a silver object was cursed. Also, museums today have lots of objects that people say are cursed, so why would several museums refuse to take this vase?

The only proof we have is one unclear photo that could be of any old vase. Some people think the man who found it in 1988 made up the whole curse story to sell it for more money. Whether the Basano Vase is a real cursed object or just a made-up story is still unknown.
