The BMW X5 has cup holders so useful they might just save your relationship

It'll trickle down eventually.

These days, a car is only as good as the interior. For the BMW X5 Competition, drivers can’t quite get over the ingenuity of the cup holders. Two TikTok car influencers even took to the social media platform to joke about how harmonious the feature has made their relationship ever since they got the car.

For car enthusiasts, the interior is becoming more and more determinant on whether a car is worth the buy or not. Sure, the BMW X5 Competition is a performance car worth its mettle with a top-of-the-line TwinPower V8 — people fly across the country just for the chance to purchase a car like this. But just like phone enthusiasts slowly started placing the phone camera into more consideration than even the processor — car enthusiasts have also gone the same path.

The reality is simply that you won’t get to drive your car fast every day, but you will get to interact with the interior daily. That’s why car companies have continued refining the interior of cars over the years. To the point where, when you are getting these cars on the second-hand market, you are highly encouraged to ensure you’re also getting the extras, because you might not know what exactly you’re missing out on.

TikTok creator @milesperhour explained what makes his BMW cup holder so special, saying, “Heated and cooled cup holders, so I have my iced coffee over here — and I’m going to cool that cup holder. But my hot coffee on this side — and I’m going to heat that one. These are going to keep the temps perfect so that when I see Mobile Mama, she’s going to have a piping cup of coffee, and I get to keep my iced coffee nice and cool.”

According to Motor1, this particular feature is rare even in BMW. They only include it in their top brands and consider it an “executive package.” So you can find it as an add-on to the X series, although some Reddit users have since revealed that they weren’t able to get it on their regular X5. The current understanding is you can probably get it on the X7 if you want certainty about that particular feature. The X7 is truly a car with many gadgets, quirks, and features. A car fitting for a spy — no wonder Tom Cruise loves it so much.

As for his spouse, she was also willing to chime in. She said, “BMW figured out what us moms really want. Heated and cooled cup holders. That’s all. It’s really that easy.” Multiple moms joined in on the comments to express their overwhelming agreement.

Luxury cars usually just get the features first. In a sense, you can equate a glance through the interior of a luxury car as a glance into the future. Eventually, all these features just trickle down to budget-friendly models. It happened with car radios, car lighters, and most importantly the original cup holders that we now all expect in our cars.

But all credit to BMW for coming up with this technology first.
