A married couple from Ocean County, New Jersey, has won big on lottery scratch-off tickets two times in less than six months. They first took home $1 million from a $1,000,000 Ultimate Spectacular ticket. Then, just a few months later, they won $3 million from a Jackpot Millions ticket. Together, their two wins add up to $4 million.
According to UPI, the couple has two kids and another baby coming soon. They told lottery officials that they buy scratch-off tickets from the Fischer Bay Exxon station once a month. After their children go to sleep, they scratch the tickets together and make it fun by competing to see who can win more money. The husband said they usually win back at least what they spent on the tickets.
New Jersey Lottery Director James Carey made a comment about their amazing luck. “I’ve always said that you only need one ticket to win big,” Carey said. “But I guess, in this case two tickets certainly didn’t hurt! This is just pure blind luck.” His words show just how rare it is for someone to win once, let alone twice in such a short time.
Sometimes lightning really does strike twice
The husband was scratching off their second winning ticket when he knew something big had happened. He gave the ticket to his wife to check it.
“With our kids, we can’t really get out of the house,” the husband said. “So at the beginning of the month, we get some tickets. When the kids go to bed, we scratch a few off. We like to make it a bit of a competition — who can win the most. It seems we at least always break even .”
She remembered the moment clearly and said she looked at it, held it close to her and screamed. About ten seconds later, she started laughing. The husband said the timing was perfect for their family.
The couple said they plan to use the money to take care of their growing family. With their third child coming soon, the $3 million prize showed up at just the right time. They want to make sure their kids are well provided for.
