Woman moves in with boyfriend after he promised to cover rent but ends up getting a nasty shock when the real rent-payer shows up to kick her out

She had no idea her boyfriend wasn't the one paying rent.

Moving in with your partner is pretty normalized in society but sometimes that decision can really break a relationship, especially if one person is hiding something from the other. The truth always comes out and one woman on TikTok who thought her boyfriend had the rent covered found this out the hard way.

In a viral clip shared by a woman called Lexi we can see another woman calmly sitting on a sofa in what we can assume is Lexi and her boyfriend’s apartment. Obviously there’s a bit of context missing but we can gather from what’s being said that Lexi and this woman are arguing over her right to stay in the apartment.

Lexi asks her, “why are you here?” To which the the woman responds, “I’m on the lease,” Lexi then tells her, “Cool, I live here.”

Evidently this woman is trying to kick Lexi out of the property and in the caption she explains that 8 hours later the woman and the boyfriend had put her stuff in a box on the street and changed the locks, essentially kicking Lexi out of what she thought was her home.

What’s going on here?

Over the course of multiple videos, Lexi explained that she had moved out of her own apartment and in with her boyfriend as he had told her he would cover rent for her. She explains that her boyfriend prided himself in being a provider and wanted to provide for her. Lexi admits that it was a quality she found to be attractive, reasoning, “It is not a crime for a pretty girl to get her rent paid.”

However, unbeknownst to her, the boyfriend was only paying half the rent with the other half being paid for by his parents. At the same time, the parents weren’t aware that Lexi was living with him. Upon finding out they took issue with it and once it all came out Lexi was given the choice to either pay half the rent or move out.

Obviously, that’s a lot to process as the boyfriend had been lying to her the whole time, Lexi also claims that she found out he was cheating on her during this period too. Anyways, she refused the deal and that’s when her boyfriend’s mother showed up to kick her out.

TikTok gives its opinion

As you know, the people of TikTok can be quite opinionated and views were split over who was truly in the right. While many sided with Lexi, calling out the now ex-boyfriend’s deception, others stated that she didn’t have a leg to stand on as she wasn’t paying rent. One person pointed out that the mother was “losing rental income and yet everybody seems to think she’s the bad person.”

Ultimately, Lexi moved out that same day (not that she was given much choice), and she is seemingly over the whole thing now.
