The White House insists Trump is ‘taking meetings around the clock’, but work logs reveal he rarely works before 10:30 am

Should there be a maximum age for presidents?

Donald Trump hit the roof when The New York Times reported that the 79-year-old president is no longer an energetic young go-getter. Trump, who continues to bang the drum that Biden was so old as to be incapable of being president, is now feeling the cold hand of time on his own shoulders.

Now, to strike back against reports that he’s slowing down and in decline, the White House has released “Oval Office logs” to the New York Post that claim to show Trump is a workaholic dynamo putting in 50-hour weeks – and continuing to work on weekends!

Karoline Leavitt must have beamed with pride as she told the Post that:

“The New York Times cobbled together half-baked data to push a narrative that President Trump, who is clearly sharp as a tack, is somehow unfit to be president, after they covered for Joe Biden’s clear cognitive decline. The truth is President Trump never stops working, and his private schedule, Truth Social posts, and around-the-clock engagement on every issue proves just that.”

Hold the phone! Leavitt just said something true! Trump does post a lot on Truth Social! As for the rest of her claims… well, let’s just say they don’t pass the sniff test.

While you’re hard at work, the president is still snoozing

The logs provided to the paper (and indeed the logs of the president’s schedule online) show a remarkably slack schedule of events that generally begin after 10:30 am. Most White House meetings begin at a time that would allow Trump a nice, relaxing rest in bed before a ponderous breakfast, finally setting down to actually work at a time most Americans are thinking about lunch.

Trump’s overall presidential activity has also objectively decreased. As the Times article pointed out, Trump’s official appearances have declined by almost 40% compared to his first term, and he’s appearing to fall asleep behind the resolute desk during Oval Office engagements.

None of this is unusual for a man approaching his 80th birthday! Most men in his position are happily retired, with their main preoccupations being golf, fishing, looking after grandkids, and gardening. Even on a cut-back schedule to compensate for his fatigue and age, Trump is visibly slipping.

The United States has a minimum age for the presidency. After two consecutive presidents who are clearly struggling to keep up with the demands of the job, maybe it’s time for a maximum age rule, too?
