On Dec. 3, Donald Trump announced clemency for the Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar and his wife, Imelda. He shared a letter from their two daughters requesting the pardon on Truth Social and blasted Joe Biden for indicting the couple. But it sounds a little too hypocritical.
Henry and Imelda Cuellar were indicted in May 2024 on charges of money laundering, conspiracy, and bribery. Investigators alleged that nearly $600,000 in bribes had been funneled into Imelda’s shell companies from Azerbaijan and Mexico between 2014 and 2021. Trump, however, insists that Biden “went after” the two “simply for speaking the TRUTH.”
In his post, Trump claimed the “Biden Administration weaponized the Justice System against their Political Opponents, and anyone who disagreed with them.” He cited the Cuellars as proof, calling Henry a “Highly Respected Congressman.” He insists he was targeted merely for criticizing Biden’s border policy, and Imelda was dragged along for the ride:
Henry Cuellar bravely spoke out against Open Borders, and the Biden Border “Catastrophe.” Sleepy Joe went after the Congressman, and even the Congressman’s wonderful wife, Imelda, simply for speaking the TRUTH. It is unAmerican and, as I previously stated, the Radical Left Democrats are a complete and total threat to Democracy!
Trump is moral policing Biden
Acting high and mighty, Trump then went on to claim that Democrats “attack, rob, lie, cheat, destroy, and decimate anyone who dares to oppose their Far Left Agenda.” He argued that left-wing views would “obliterate our magnificent Country” if not stopped. Then, citing these claims as justification for clemency, he wrote:
Because of these facts, and others, I am hereby announcing my full and unconditional PARDON of beloved Texas Congressman Henry Cuellar, and Imelda. Henry, I don’t know you, but you can sleep well tonight — Your nightmare is finally over!
The Cuellars’ trial had not yet begun as of December 2025, and both maintained their innocence. But even if we accept Trump’s claim that Biden targeted them for political reasons, Trump is the last person who should be lecturing anyone about political revenge.
Trump’s political revenges are documented
Trump’s pettiness and fragile ego are well documented. Anyone who dares criticize him gets slapped with an insulting label, pushed out, or becomes the target of a personal crusade. The “clearest examples”? James Comey, John Bolton, and Letitia James. And that’s just to name a few. His use of the Department of Justice to pursue personal vendettas is also on record.
In October, he accidentally leaked private messages with the DOJ’s head, Pam Bondi. In them, he urged Bondi to indict his opponents, including Adam Schiff, Letitia James, and James Comey. And guess what? Two of them were indicted. So before calling Biden “un-American,” Trump should take a long look in the mirror.
No administration has ever been as personally loyal to a president as Trump’s. Dangerously, that loyalty consistently outweighs the law and Constitution for them. In essence, he has weaponized the entire administration since taking office. They dance to his gestures and worship him like a God.
