A 24-year-old Maryland mother who publicly mourned her infant daughter’s death on social media and launched a GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses is now facing multiple murder and child abuse charges, according to Maryland State Police.
Police arrested Destiny Faith Chiveral of Charlestown in December 2025, in connection with the death of her five-week-old daughter, who was found unresponsive on December 4 at a residence in Rising Sun, Cecil County. Emergency responders pronounced the baby dead at the scene.

In the days following the infant’s death, Chiveral shared lengthy Facebook posts describing her grief. In one message, she wrote that she had “unexpectedly lost” her “beautiful baby girl” and said she would “never be the same person,” according to a TikTok video shared by true crime creator Abby Blabby, who compiled and quoted Chiveral’s post.
“Yesterday morning changed me in ways I can’t explain forever,” Chiveral wrote in one post. “I’m so thankful for the five weeks and two days I got to spend loving, holding, feeding, and being your mother.” The post asked friends and family for prayers and privacy, adding that her “mind is so dark right now.”
Chiveral also created a GoFundMe page seeking donations for funeral and cremation costs. In the fundraiser description, she wrote, “My baby girl. You were just too perfect for earth,” and thanked donors for their support during the holidays. The GoFundMe has since been removed.
The night Chiveral’s child died
Maryland State Police said Chiveral initially told officers she had fallen asleep on a couch with the baby beside her and later found the child wedged between couch cushions. According to charging documents and statements from law enforcement, investigators soon determined that the child’s death was not accidental.
An autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner revealed injuries inconsistent with accidental suffocation, including bleeding in the back of the brain, bruising across the body, a laceration to the upper lip, and abrasions on the face.
Authorities allege that Chiveral had been drinking heavily the night before the baby was found dead. Investigators recovered Snapchat videos sent from her phone during a “girls’ night” at a friend’s house. According to police, the videos show Chiveral intoxicated, dancing and lip-syncing, struggling to open a baby gate, and referencing the baby crying in the background. Some videos reportedly show signs of slurred speech and intoxication.
Police believe the infant cried for several hours while Chiveral was intoxicated and that the baby suffered fatal injuries during that time. When first responders arrived shortly after 9 a.m., rigor mortis had already begun, according to court records.
Investigators also say Chiveral conducted internet searches related to cremating a baby after learning she was under investigation. Prosecutors allege the GoFundMe campaign and social media posts were created after police scrutiny intensified.
Chiveral has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree child abuse resulting in death, and related offenses. She is currently being held without bond at the Cecil County Detention Center. Chiveral has not entered a plea, and no trial date has been announced.
