Rob Reiner and his wife were supposed to have an important meeting the night they died – with Barack Obama

They missed an important date.

The tragic, shocking murder of Rob and Michele Reiner hit the political world hard, as Barack and Michelle Obama were reportedly scheduled to meet with the couple the very night they were found brutally murdered in their Los Angeles home. Michelle Obama confirmed the devastating timing during a recent appearance on a talk show, explaining that she and her husband had plans to get together with the Reiners on Sunday night, just hours after the double homicide occurred.

It’s clear the relationship was deep, as Michelle explained to Jimmy Kimmel. She discussed how she and Barack had been chummy with the Reiners for many years. It must have been incredibly difficult for her to speak about the couple so soon after the tragedy, but she offered her condolences and confirmed their long-standing friendship.

However, the conversation quickly turned political. Michelle took an obvious swipe at President Trump during the interview concerning comments he made following the murders. Most people viewed the president’s remarks as truly despicable, and Michelle definitely wasn’t subtle in her disapproval.

Trump’s issues with Reiner make more sense after his friendship is revealed

You probably know exactly what comments she was referring to. President Trump had written publicly that Rob Reiner was a one-time talented director who had devolved into being “tortured and struggling” because of what the president called “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” President Trump also claimed that Rob drove people crazy because of his extreme hatred for him. Astonishingly, the president later doubled down on these ugly remarks during a press conference held right in the Oval Office. It’s a truly awful reaction to a tragedy, and you can understand why Michelle Obama felt compelled to speak out.

Setting aside the political fallout, the details of the crime itself are grim. Law enforcement sources confirmed that the Reiners had their throats slit inside their home. Authorities arrested the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, hours after the murders took place. The LAPD and U.S. Marshals Service worked together to take him into custody.

The focus is now shifting to the suspect and the days leading up to the shocking crime. Sources close to the investigation say that Nick was acting very odd the Saturday night before the double homicide. He was attending a ritzy party, but he reportedly kept entirely to himself. Our sources also mentioned that his attire seemed completely out of place for the high-end event; he was wearing a sweatshirt when everyone else was dressed up.

We’re also told that Nick appeared to be high that night, which isn’t surprising given his long history. He has known substance abuse problems and has had several failed stints in rehab over the years. This context paints a very sad picture of the events leading up to the horrific violence that claimed his parents’ lives.

It’s just devastating to think about how close the Obamas were to seeing them that night. You can’t imagine the shock they must have felt when they realized their friends, with whom they had plans just hours later, were savagely murdered.
