‘They’ve never had a plan’: Senator Jim McGovern reminds the GOP that Trump has promised healthcare for nine years but never delivered

Jim McGovern claims Amercians are sick of the "empty rhetoric."

One thing that doesn’t seem to get talked about enough is how Donald Trump literally has no plan for affordable healthcare. He’s dangled the idea over the people’s heads for years but never delivered. Thankfully Senator Jim McGovern isn’t afraid to call out the president on his elusive healthcare plan.

Yesterday congress passed a healthcare bill without the ACA subsidy renewal Democrats had been hoping to include. Earlier this year the president passed his so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” which essentially gutted the Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, cutting funding and leaving many Americans wondering what they were going to do next.

Trump has always been strongly opposed to the ACA although despite many of his voters relying on it, he cut funding with no suitable alternative. Speaking on Wednesday, Senator Jim McGovern called out the president’s nonsense, looking back at all the forgotten promises Trump has made with regards to affordable care over the course of nine years.

Jim McGovern criticizes Trump

The Senator systematically listed every time Trump had told U.S. citizens that he would replace “Obamacare” with something better only for nothing to ever materialize. He begins in February 2016 and goes on until the more recent months following the funding cuts to the ACA.

When compiled into a bullet point list like that it’s somewhat shocking to realize just how much Trump lied about this one particular topic. A better alternative is somehow always just around the corner and yet it never materializes. This is a real life case of the boy who cried wolf, after nine years of this nobody is ever going to believe Trump if he promises affordable healthcare again.

The worst part is that it doesn’t even look like the GOP has a workable plan as a starting point. Do we really believe the Trump Administration is capable of magically providing something better than the ACA when they’ve proven time and time again that they have nothing?

“People are sick and tired of the empty rhetoric,” exclaims McGovern, “They’re sick and tired of you saying you have a plan and you never produce one. All you want to do is undermine healthcare for hardworking, average Americans.”

McGovern’s words ring true, many are frustrated with the constant empty promises. “Trumps healthcare promises are kinda infamous for being all hype and no substance,” wrote one person on X. Another referred to the constant lies as Republicans “Just saying screw you over and over.”

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like we can expect a workable alternative to the ACA anytime soon, probably not until Trump is out of office and someone with a little bit of sense is voted in.
