A traveler lost control at Kansas City International Airport on New Year’s Eve. He screamed at Southwest Airlines workers and threatened to hit female employees. The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at a Southwest Airlines counter.
According to the NY Post, a video of the outburst spread on social media. It was posted by X user Collin Rugg. In the video, the man can be heard yelling at the workers. He said he was from the UK and kept threatening the women behind the counter.
The roughly four-minute video shows the man putting his hand on an employee’s computer screen. The worker told him to step back. When the employee said she would call police, the man shouted that he didn’t care about getting arrested. He threatened to hit her and said, “I’ll still smack your bitch ass!”
The confrontation turned more aggressive as bystanders stepped in
The man kept making threats while a male worker stood behind the counter. He leaned toward the employee and said, “This counter ain’t saving you!” He pointed at the woman and added, “If I wanted to, I would have got your bitch ass already.” The employee stood her ground as passengers watched nearby.
The employee grabbed her phone to call the police. The man then walked angrily toward her workstation from behind the counter. Two coworkers quickly moved between the woman and the man as he continued yelling threats. This incident joins other viral customer meltdown videos gaining attention online recently.
The situation got worse when the man raised his voice and complained, “I’ve been here since 5:30.” Several people in the terminal tried to calm him down, but it didn’t work. Another man in a baseball cap approached the angry passenger. The woman filming told the unruly man to “shut up,” and he shot back, “Or what, bitch?”
The two men were held apart as things got more heated. One bystander urged, “Don’t escalate!” As he was pulled away, the man kept taunting people, saying they were soft. According to Rugg, the man was later arrested.
Airport officials said the incident happened during a security investigation that briefly stopped operations at Kansas City International Airport. The Kansas City Aviation Department later said the airport reopened and was working normally after police and the FBI checked the scene.
An FBI spokesperson said agents and airport police worked quickly to check the situation and make sure everyone was safe. They moved travelers out of the affected area. Similar to how deportation cases spark online debates, this airport confrontation quickly gained widespread attention.
Authorities found there was no real threat to the airport or the people inside. Once everything was cleared, airport staff worked to get operations back to normal and reduce problems for travelers.
