Tony Hawk hits back at rumors linking him to Epstein, calls them ‘the misinformation vortex’

He broke his silence to hush the "narrative of nonsense."

Tony Hawk is absolutely not here for the internet gossip, pushing back hard against an allegation that claimed one of his weddings took place on Jeffrey Epstein’s private island. The uncorroborated allegation stemmed from a mention found within the recently unsealed Epstein Files.

The source of this allegation is a 2024 email, written by an FBI investigator from the National Threat Operations Center. The partially redacted email referenced a statement from a potential Epstein victim, who called into a tip line. That statement claimed that she was taken to Epstein’s island when she was 13 and “was there when Prince Edward was there and when Tony Hawk got married on the island.”

According to Reality Tea, facing intense online speculation, Tony Hawk decided enough was enough. On Feb 5th, he posted a story on Instagram to set the record straight. In a detailed post, written entirely in all caps, he laid out the facts about his four marriages to directly contradict the false narrative circulating online.

The way he laid it out makes it easy to verify

Hawk didn’t mince words when he started his rebuttal, stating, “Here are the facts and timelines of my nuptials, and I apologize if they don’t fit a narrative of nonsense.” If you’re keeping score, his first wedding was to Cindy Dunbar (1990) in Fallbrook, California. His second ceremony (1996) to Erin Lee was in San Diego, California. In 2006, he married Lhotse Merriam in Fiji. Finally, his 2015 marriage to his current wife, Catherine Goodman, happened in Ireland.

That 2006 Fiji destination wedding seems to be the wedding this rumor is referencing. Hawk explained that the connection became tangled in the Epstein story because of a strange coincidence involving the photographer. “One of the guests in 2006 shot photos of the Fiji ceremony and licensed them to Getty Images,” Hawk explained. He then added the crucial clarification: “His name is [coincidentally] Mark Epstein.”

This is the kind of bizarre detail that just feeds the conspiracy machine, isn’t it? Hawk was quick to clarify that Mark Epstein is “an accomplished action sports photographer from Wyoming and of no relation to Jeffrey Epstein (who I never met and whose island I never visited).” It seems that the only real problem is that an innocent photographer shares a name with Jeffrey Epstein.

Hawk wrapped up his post by emphasizing that the truth is readily available and verifiable. “This is all easily verifiable information. Facts are not fungible,” he stressed. He also made sure to apologize directly to the photographer for being pulled into what he termed “the misinformation vortex.”

Epstein’s private island was known for his wild parties, and many of his contacts asked for an opportunity to visit, including the US Secretary of Commerce. However, as we now know, it was never the site of Tony Hawk’s wedding.
