Trump’s latest ‘unhinged’ rant insists China/Canada trade deal means death of ice hockey and Stanley Cup

"The first thing China will do is terminate ALL Ice Hockey being played in Canada."

Donald Trump‘s genius economic plan was basically the same strategy as a schoolyard bully. He figured the United States was the most important country in the world, so why not squeeze other countries with destructive tariffs? I mean, what are they going to do? Trade with someone else? Yeah, right…

As it turns out, that’s precisely what the rest of the world has done. For example, when Brazil imprisoned corrupt former leader Jair Bolsonaro after he attempted to stage a coup, Trump slammed tariffs on them. Rather than bow down to him, Brazil’s Lula quickly redirected trade to China. Beef prices in the United States promptly skyrocketed, and Trump backed down.

Now, in the wake of his repeated economic threats against Canada (including de-certifying all their planes), PM Mark Carney is following a similar path and is apparently seeking a wide-ranging trade deal with China.

Trump, like an abusive partner horrified that they’ve been dumped, is fuming in his usual incomprehensible way:

I don’t need to repeat all of this spittle-flecked word salad, but the most bizarre moment comes when Trump insists China is planning to wage war on… ice hockey?

“Prime Minister Carney wants to make a deal with China — which will eat Canada alive. We’ll just get the leftovers! I don’t think so. The first thing China will do is terminate ALL Ice Hockey being played in Canada, and permanently eliminate The Stanley Cup.”

I have no idea why Trump believes China has anything against ice hockey in Canada. If this were any other politician, I’d think they were trying to make an awkward joke, but as it’s Trump, it’s more likely he misunderstood something he read and jumped to conclusions.

Make China Great Again

Either way, all of this once again underlines that the primary beneficiary of the second Trump administration is China. It’s now clear to the rest of the world that the United States is cuckoo bananas right now and too volatile to securely trade with.

How can you make an economic plan when you might wake up to find the insane president has slapped tariffs on you for yet another inane and pointless reasons? Who wants to partner up with an international laughing stock?

The Chinese Communist Party are no angels, but at least they’re not raving lunatics ready to burn down the world around them. Make America Great Again? More like Welcome to the New Chinese Century.
