In Britain, the Jeffrey Epstein fallout is actually being taken seriously. Prime Minister Keir Starmer is even facing mounting calls to resign, partly because of staff members who were named in the files. For the royal family, however, things are getting so bad they might actually have to end up joining the workforce.
Sarah Ferguson is reportedly already polishing up her CV and finally ditching ex-husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. The two have been implicated in some of the most damning examples of emails showing complicity with the late convicted child sex offender.
Andrew lost his royal decorations after he was accused of having been involved in a years-long friendship with Epstein, which included allegations of involvement in sexual acts with minors and far-reaching financial entanglements with the shadowy New York financier. The former prince’s reputation has never truly recovered from the fallout of the BBC interview in which he unsuccessfully tried to brush off his Epstein ties.
But once the emails were released, an entirely new scandal formed. Epstein was always believed to have ties with some of the most powerful people in the Western world — but before Congress forced the Justice Department to release the files, anyone accused could simply claim that they were never that close to Epstein. For Sarah Ferguson in particular, she could always point to Andrew and claim that she was never in the inner orbit of that world.
The emails revealed the two acknowledging a secret baby, sharing personal details of their interior lives, and even at least one invitation to Buckingham Palace, where Andrew told the convicted pedophile that he could “bring whomever.” Now Andrew is under investigation, and Thames Valley Police Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright has revealed that the department is assessing the allegations against him.
According to Express, Wright said, “As part of this assessment, we have engaged in discussions with Specialist Crown Prosecutors from the CPS. We will provide updates as and when they are available, but at this stage it would be inappropriate to discuss further specifics of this work.”
Ferguson has already started to disentangle herself from the disgraced former prince. Reportedly, she has been living beyond the watchful eye of the British press in France and the UAE since the news broke. The former couple remained close after their divorce and had continued living together at Royal Lodge in Windsor despite separating in 1996. This scandal is apparently the one thing that will split them up for good.
According to sources familiar with the situation in Ferguson’s inner circle, she was heard telling a friend, “When I come back, I am going to have to put some distance between myself and Andrew.” She also told another friend that her return to England is motivated by the need for much-needed financial opportunities. She was also heard saying, “I need to get back to work. I need money.”
Ms. Ferguson getting back to the UK and getting back to work does not mean the investigations will clear her. 3.5 million documents were released, and she is believed to have been one of the closest friends of the pedophile. While familiarity is not complicity, if anything ends up implicating either of the two, this time there will be no escaping further repercussions.
